Hi Fellas

How would you pros go about fittting a shock sensor to a set of french doors, I don't mean the wiring I mean getting the cable to a sensor that is located about 3 feet down the casing without showing any cable or showing as little cable as possible, I'm at a bit of a loss as the only way I can think of is to run the cable down the surface of the frame, not pritty and probably not the correct way I know.

any suggestions welcome, oh and by the way, merry xmass and a happy new year to one and all. :<img src=:"

s located about 3 feet down the casing

That would make it about eye height to some people and not so pretty.

I would try to get the device on the top of the door, or if there isnt enough room then one of the bottom corners. Cable up behind the plaster or down under the floor.

If its PVC 9 time sout of 10 you can fish the wired through the inside of the hollow framework, ive done this all over my house, all you have showing is a bit at the top where it enters after the plastic welds.

If its wood i would put t at the top dead centre.

Id normally put 2 on french doors, 1 either side at the top or bottom.

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

thanks for the quick replys,

the doors are the PVC type, the reason I say about putting the shock sensor about 2 - 3 feet down is thats what it shows on the instruction leaflet that came with them. I like the idea of running the cable inside the frame I didn't realise you could do that until now.

they are the Texecom impaq plus shock sensors. I've got two of them, I had planned to use one for the garage window, but looking at what has been posted it might be a good idea to use two on the french doors as they are bout seven foot wide with a double door opening in the middle.

How do you know it is a french door... Has it got french letters on it??? :joker:

IT threw up it's handles and surrendered.

generally, a lot of times the casing can be pulled back and wiring run behind it carefully, just like pulling floorboards or other trim, otherwise I'd look for an easier and just as suitable location.

Thanks arfur mo, all sorted now, I used a tip I picked up somewhere on here about drilling a hole at the top of the PVC frame and droping the cable down inside the frame and bring it out where you need it. I then capped the entry point at the top with a PVC trim picked up at a DIY store a bit of silicone and it looks the dogs.
