Melcom ST5500 Charges Battery?

Featured Replies

Has anyone has any experience with the Melcom ST5500 (4 sector alarm kit). Just wondering if this panel will keep the SLA backup battery charged? Putting a voltmeter across the battery connectors gives no voltage (battery not connected).

I know this is an old post but it received no replies and I have the same question. It seems a bit stuppid to have to remove the battery periodically and find a way to recharge it. :(

Your panel should charge the standby battery.

Check there is 13.65v DC approx.at the end of the battery leads ( battery disconnected ) if not check the battery fuse.

Your battery should be replaced every 5 years approx.

If you have any doubts about electricity , leave alone and get a pro in.

Regards.

QFA Fastcar,

this Melcom 5500 is listed as a DIY kit, so where '4 sector' gets into it's description is anybody's guess and a bit strange, so i assume 4 zones used were meant.

i'm not sure but doubt if it has a 'safety' battery supply, like some Elmdene PSU's which will not connect the battery untill mains is applied.
