Power failure

Featured Replies

On Wednesday there was a power failure in the area and the Veritas R8 was on part setting so i decided to disarm the alarm. 2 hours later the internal and external alarm started sounding, i was unable to disarm as the keypad as it was not responding. So to turn off i had to disconnect the internal battery. The alarm has now been installed for about 9 years. When the main power did come back on the alarm started working and the next day when i measured internal battery it read 12.3volts. So may questions are:

1. What does the alarm do when main power is lost?

2. Are my internal batteries not recharging fully? (in bell box and controller)

3. How do i replace the batteries? (i.e. the procedure to follow when replacing)

4. The controlled battery is a yuasa 12V. What will be in the bell box?

What does the alarm do when main power is lost?

The back up battery should take over for a minimum of 8 hours.

2. Are my internal batteries not recharging fully? (in bell box and controller)

Your battery urgently needs replacing and the charging circuit checking as this may also now be faulty after trying to recharge weak cells.

3. How do i replace the batteries? (i.e. the procedure to follow when replacing)

I would strongly suggest some professional help and get the system serviced at the same time, post your location and I'm sure someone will help.

4. The controlled battery is a yuasa 12V. What will be in the bell box?

A ni-cad depending on the manufacturer.

Just phoned holgate, given price for £35 callout + £10 because of distance (10 miles from york) + £25 for battery and maybe a fuse replacement. Was told looking at abot £70 to £75. Does this sound o.k . Just phone again to find out is VAT is included, waiting for reply.

Sounds extremely reasonable for a non-maintained customer.

Our price would be

Should the worst happen and the panel cooked i can see this costing more but 75 quid is the going rate for york.

Minster Man, the alarm has being working fine since the main power came back on, and the internal battery is charged to 12.3V . I've disconnected mains and was running on internal battery without any problems but i do not know how long it will last (so control pannel should be ok). So i've got a engineer comming out next week to replace internal batter, he says the one in bell box should be ok. Only control battery needs replacing.

thanks for feedback form everyone!!!!
