System Upgrade?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am new to alarm systems so am looking for some advice. :(

I recently moved into a house with an old hard wired system, my guess is its more than 12 years old.

I have some paper work on it, the main panel appears to be an ADEMCO 4100

It is hard wired and i know it worked until the last owner replaced some windows and doors. At that point they disarmed it and its been in that state since.

Given its old, i am thinking it should be replaced.

I am tempted to junk it and install a DIY wireless system but i know that would be stupid given that the hard wiring exists.

So assuming i upgrade the existing hard wire system

My question is what gets replaced ?

I assume the existing wiring can be reused and maybe the bell boxes and PIR's ?

I also assume the main control box and keypad and all batteries will require replacement.

If someone could confirm the above i would be grateful, also a rough idea for the cost of a replacement unit would be nice :)

I am in Burnham Bucks.

Many thanks for any response!

Please don't replace it with a wireless panel!

The 4110 is quite a good panel and if it still works ok , there is no real need to replace it.

Same goes with the rest of your cabling and devices.

You really need someone round to have a look at it.

Someone near you should reply soon. :)

If you don't know......ask.

I would be inclined to get someone out to service the existing system and get that up and running. If that's a no-go then the engineer will be able to advise you at the time.

We can assist you with getting the panel checked out as we cover your area from our office in Hayes.

The 4110 is a good panel, even if there is a fault that means a new panel, we carry spares for the 4110 as we have quite a lot of them installed in the West London area.

If you do wish to upgrade the wiring should be reuseable, depending on the fault and its condition.

If you need some further assistance call my office on Monday.

Colin.

Many thanks, i thought the wireless option would not be popular ;-)

I now know for sure its totally disconnected as i had the consumer unit changed today and heard not a peep from the alarm.

I do not have any idea about the last key code used by the previous owner before it was shut down, is this a problem or will the engineer code enable a reset to default...whatever that is ?

thanks.

not familier with this panel myself but another engineer who knows these panels will be able to sort any programming ect also as mentioned in earlier posts get it serviced and dont fit a wire less system (they can be hassle)

glen :)

Yes. An engineer can default and reprogram the panel to suit your needs.

You will also need a new battery! ;)

Many thanks to all for the response.

I have now located the user and install manuals along with the

elusive engineer code :D

So i shall be delving into these before deciding on a next move.
