Texecom Veritas Excel

Featured Replies

Hi, I've just bought my first house (so am more skint than a skint person that's just come first place in a skint competition) and need an alarm installing. I'm open to advice, but like the look of the Texecom Veritas Excel especially having a LCD remote keypad.

To try and save a bit of money on installation costs, I was going to run the cabling in for the sensors etc. myself whilst doing the decorating etc. then have the panel installed professionally.

What core cable is required for the Excel and can someone suggest (sensible answers please  ) where i should put the main PCB?

Thank you in advance.

James

Yup good panel mate, best palce to put it would be in an airing cupboard or similar cupboard obviously somewhere where its easy to run the cabling to.

Hi,

Thanks for the fast response.

Do i need eight core cable or would six be sufficient?

Thanks again for all help received.

James

Although only 6 are needed it's deemed good practice to run 8 core in to allow for cable faults\expansion later on. The price difference between the 2 isn't drastic.

When cabling make sur you dont forget to cable the internal sounder, keypad ,bell and front door. A lot of people forget them and just run cables for PIRs!!!!!

Veritas Excel is a reasonable, flexible panel, locate somewhere centrally in the house near to a 240v Mains source, such as airing cupboard or understairs cupboard.

As already stated, 8 core isnt needed but its advisable to run 8 core to everything.

Good Luck

Glenn

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

Hi,

Could anyone tell me what battery i would need for the excel unit or does it come with one?

I'm gonna get the system installed by someone that knows what they're doing (as i obviously don't!!!) but i was going to buy the items from Safe direct as they seem reasonable on price. Unless someone knows a better site.

What are everyones opinions on the best set up for a small domestic installation?(1 large lounge/dining room, Kitchen, garage with internal access to house, 1 main bedroom and office) Do you recommend door contacts or pirs etc.

Thanks for all the help, it really is appreciated.

Veritas Excell requires a 12V 7AH sealed lead-acid battery.

Assuming you don't have pets, I would recommend a PIR in each room in the house which you intend to protect. That is usually one in each major downstairs room, and one on the landing, sometimes one in the master bedroom / upstairs study etc. A magnetic contact on each door to be used as an entry route. Garage - usually a heavy-duty magnetic contact on the garage door (if the garage is to be protected) otherwise, a magnetic contact on the interleading door.

Having said that, every house is different, and every house-holder has different requirements - this is just generalised advice. To get valuable advice, a professional would need to visit your house. When you say that you will get it done by someone who knows what they are doing, do you have anyone in mind already? If not, post your location, and someone on the forum may be able to help oout.
