Hi I have bought a menvier m12 smoke detector and connecting it to my 9800 but reading the engineer manual it says it makes the bell box sound different I have a pyronix belle and don't really want to burn it out so I thought I had better ask if it's ok to do that

Not quite, I think that statement refers to the speaker tones (like a french fire alarm)

 

I can't remember if the 9800 offered it or not, but I think you could also have a pulsed bell or none at all.

It read in the manual that the internal speaker will be generating a quick two tone sound and the external bell will be pulsing I suppose its just trial and error it just worried me a bit

It will be okay. Alarm just sounds different so you can tell between fire and intruder.
