htipton
Can you advise me. I have moved to a property with a Karizma alarm system. The previous owners say they have never used the alarm and don't know the code. What if anything can I do? If I replace the key pad, does this mean I have a new code? To fill in a little more detail. The previous owners moved to Spain the alarm kept going off so he gave permission to his neighbour to disconnect the external box. When we moved in I messed around with the internal box and keypad, until the internal siren kicked off. needless to say, I wasn't the most popular person in the house that day!! I took the back up battery out and that sorted that. Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/30572-pin-code/ Share on other sites
james.wilson
. What if anything can I do? If I replace the key pad, does this mean I have a new code? No if it were then burglars could cary that keypad round and hit every karizma based system. You need to reprogram the codes, reconnect the bell, fix the original issue and you will have a working security system. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount. Guest Oxo
It probably needs a good service, new batteries as well. Its also a bit long in the tooth. Get some quotes in for a newer system. arfur mo
The panel cZn be reprogrammed by an engineer and tested if fit for purpose. It is a sophisticated panel, so when contacting firms mention the make, as not all companies deal with iD based systems. if the panel us dead, other makes control units can be substituted for the karizma, but not likely to be a cheap fix. Post you area membes may contact you to offer their services. Arfur If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!! 9651
Yes, better get a firm who knows about them really. They are easy if you have experience of them, you might find some who wont touch them with a barge pole. We are very familiar, but too far away lol. Just to lt you know they are now an obsolete panel (the Karizma and Karizma +) If your panel is goosed, theres a few options available 1. Replace it with a panel that can use iD technology. Texecom/Guardtec etc (can be a bit pricey) This though means no extra wiring needed, so no disruption to the rest of the property other than Keypad and panel change 2. Replace it with a non iD panel. This option is cheaper for the hardware, but you may need additional wiring to existing sensors 3. New wire free system. No disruption, and does away with wiring to sensors. Guest Oxo
As before I would think a change would be prudent. A patch up here and there with an older panel is always going to be more expensive than getting it repalced and with the newer panels you can expect many years if maintained at reqular intervals. I do know some feel that regular maintainence isnt needed, but freguent the forums and other sites and its always the same panels with the same problems showing up. But a decent panel fitted now with some maintainence will last far longer that the one you have. As always get 3 quotes for either repair or replace. Also might be an idea to check your insurance and see what they say if they are aware you have an alarm. Not trying to worry you just give some sound advice. The best being get 3 quotes. 9651 has given you the best steps to go about this with his 3 options.
