As a comparison, you say you work full time in I.T., so. Who installs, sets up and runs your servers and network - my guess is it ain't some amateur you found on a forum who said he knows what he's doing. Cubit, you're right, I don't have a clue but thought I'd ask around for some advice to see if it was feasible. This forum looked like a good place to start and ask few questions. Anyone can screw a few cheap cameras to a wall and plug them into a DVR but as redbull said, for this project, you need a pro, which isn't me. You've wisely decided that the installation is not something that you have the experience and expertise to undertake.2.
