allenjames
Hello. Is it possible to add an isolating switch to a bell box so I can switch the thing off when needed ? My box wiring will go into the loft and across to the contol panel. can i add a switch somewhere along this wire run to disable it ? I realise I will need to switch the bell box backup battery too. I just dont like the idea of it screaming its nuts off when i need to remove the cover. FASTCAR
Hi , It sounds like this is a job you are planning?, if so just fit a Texecom Odessey , they have a feature called engineer hold off , this silences the siren when you are servicing. allenjames
I already have the kit from screwfix. Accenta 8 Mini Gen 4 with 2 LCD RKP. Reson8 bellbox (yes I know) 2x PIR, 1 Door Switch. As we have literally jsut moved in and are in the process of decorating, decorating, decorating, money is tight at the mo, so would prefer to add switch to the reson8 until I can free up some more funds. So...., Possible ? (or maybe dont connect bell tamper temporarily_ Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/23138-bell-box-isolating-switch/#findComment-196825 Share on other sites

allenjames
Anything is possible, whether it is a good idea is another matter. As I said, the bell box wiring will run through the loft - the switch would be in the loft - not really easily found by an intruder. So Im guessing... 1, extend backup battery wires into loft and switch. (to stop it powering itself) ? 2, add a switch to the wire that powers the bellbox from the panel ? amateurandy
extend backup battery wires into loft and switch. (to stop it powering itself) ? Doesn't that bellbox have its own internal battery - most (all?) do so that they keep sounding even when Mr Burglar has smashed up the main panel to silence it. I think maybe you need to look at the wiring a bit more carefully and work out what does/doesn't trigger the bellbox..... (and also what won't trigger or fuse the main panel!) allenjames
Indeed! why wouldnt it be a good idea ? 1, the bellbox would work as it should when the switches are on. (which is a good idea) 2, when i need to access the bellbox I can enter my loft to where I located the switches and turn them off. this would stop the bellbox screaming in my face while up a ladder. (which is another good idea) I guess the theory of the bad idea is that an intruder could switch off the bell box ? After breaking in, triggering the alarm, opening my shed to remove my ladders to access the loft (unless he brings his own) rooting around in the loft to locate the switches to turn it off - its never gonna happen. Alarm Protection
When you need to remove the cover put the panel in engineering mode and then when you have finished what you are doing put the cover back on and take panel out of engineering mode........ or am i missing something here! !
