Its 40p per mile for the 1st 10k and 20p there after this is only is claimed as an expence and is tax free.

For this you have to provide a car, maintenance, tax, insurance etc etc.

I know cos i provide my own car for my business, you must keep records of all work related milage.

Correct.

This is for non company car users. Such as those who have opted out.

Not quite true.

It's 25p per mle after the first 10k

Regarding the fuel allowance

It is often overlooked but you can claim tax relief on fuel allowance.

You can get this on the difference between what you could have claied (HRMC max allowances) and what you were actually paid.

This is based on your current tax levels, so if you are on higher band tax, happy days.
