Gardtec 800 Contour Keypad Display Blank ?

Featured Replies

Title of post says it all really. The display is still backlit, and the keypad operates the alarm system ok, it's just that it doesn't show anything on the 32 character LCD display. I've tried tweaking the contrast control pot on the pcb, but it makes no difference. Having searched this forum for similar, I see that someone suggested a fuse may have gone in the control box (but it wasn't followed up) - would such a fault blank the display and yet leave the keypad still functional ???

I took the keypad off the wall to paint behind it, and used the engineer code to temporarily disable the system while I did so. But it seemed fine when I put it back on the wall, so I don't think the two are linked.

Thanks v much for such a quick response ! I didn't realise I should power down before removing from the wall, my prime concern was simply ensuring the sounder didn't go off.........

You can obviously tell I'm not in the trade, so regret I'm not even sure how to 'powercycle' successfully, but I'm off to consult the installation and user manuals to find out !

Many thanks.

powercycle - great advice to a diy'er  bet the o/p put his name down for the marathon.

what angus means is to switch off the mains and disconnect the standby battery for say 10 seconds, the external siren should sound at this point so don't panic and don't do it at an unreasonable time of day/night.

reconnect the battery, type in your usder code to stop sirens, close the panel lid and restore the mains.

if your lucky the panel will show something readable on the display, if not possible you've clobbered the display driver so new keypad is needed (very rare).

all you need do then is set the time and date

i would say here if the battery is 3 years old or more this would be a very good time to replace it B)

Thanks both, makes more sense to me now.........................Battery was OK at maintenance visit last year, but as you say, will look at replacing whilst we're in there. Will try this powercycling on Fri at a more sociable hour.

I really appreciate the advice, thank you.

If you have a contract with your installer you should have contacted them and for a small fee they could have come along and disabled the RKP then installed it.

I would have even painted behind the keypad for you when on site.

No R&M for you Arf as youve probably locked in the eng code on your system lol!

on the next service visit just tell the company it "magically started working on its own...."

unless they`ve enabled engineer reset on tamper in which case your still looking at a charge LOL
