Optima Xm Fault - Please Help

Featured Replies

Hi, I have an optima XM house alarm. Just recently a fuse in the box keeps blowing. These are the 1.6 amp clear glass fuses (quick blow) and it's the left hand side fuse as you look into the box. I keep changing the fuse and then it's fine for maybe a weeks, a day or just hours, then it just blows. Does anyone know why it might be doing this???? the system is 15 years old but was only serviced last year and put new battery on etc. At the moment i am changing the fuse myself as last call out was

Can't remember off the top of my head, but I think the left hand fuse is for the Aux supply (ie power to detectors/bell) with the right hand one being for the battery. The reason this fuse is blowing is because something on the system is drawing too much current (could be a faulty PIR/Bell, damp in the bell box connections or cable fault etc). Unless you know how to check for this (you need a multi meter), you may need someone in to sort it for you. Throwing fuses at it is not really doing it any good You had any carpet fitters/building work done recently?!

the external bell may have dampness in the connections causing it to short out and blow the fuse.

That fuse is the Bell & Strobe fuse - 1.6Ah 20mm

The right hand fuse is the Battery fuse, same size

Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.

Is your bellbox as old as the rest of the system?

Does the fuse only blow after the alarm has triggered?

I'm thinking that if you've got a c-type bellbox with an external strobe, then I've had many strobes cause such a draw on the supply that they've popped the fuse.

Might be worth disconnecting the strobe to isolate the problem.

It does need sorting though. Get proper help - that

how about going the full mile, and getting a new one ;) this old one, has already cost you
