I have checked the wires and i'm pretty sure they are all fine... I have also 'manually' operated the tamper control and it appears fine. There is clear definition between on and off both audible and by feel.

I'm very tempted to upgrade anyway as I would like to add a dialer... i'd be interested to hear what upgrade path you guys would recommend.

As for the fault.. i'm determined to fix it first!

thanks for all the suggestions.

to be clear, hold the tamper contact in with your finger then start to set, then unset keeping your finger in the spring.

tbh, given it's age i'd save yourself some time and fit a Gardtec G490, it has the voice dialer built in, offers far more sophistication and can also support operation by g-tag (if you add the reader), or go for the G595 which also has the VoCom and has the G-Tag reader incorporated the keypad as standard.

i'd also advise replacing the siren for modern unit such as Gardtec's Nova 2 with built in bell timer, that way if the panel ever plays up, the siren will stop itself (have a look under noise pollution act's).

you can always put the old panel on the workbench, solve the faults for you own masculinity, then flog it as refurbed on e-bay :P

be a bit hard if it is a profile keypad LOL

but honestly it isnt that old a system and it isnt likely not to comply with noise laws etc

did you have the keypad cover off and powered it down?

it is a profile keypad, so virtually impossible...

The alarm is approx 5 years old, it has the auto cutout after 25 mins (tested, a couple of times!)

I did have the keypad cover off and I have powered it down.

Thanks

when i replied i was working on it had a maintenance contract till '05, now clarified it is a profile but still has a spring on the lid contact.

not used the 370 in years and so not seen or aware of the profile that fits it, Gardtec has it listed under eurosec and archived panels, so i assumed it was the old 1.2.3.4 across the top white 'brick'

as it is a profile, should it not also have a link fitted for the g-tag and a 12k ressistor for the keypad zone? or is yet another version specific to the 370?

keeping up with all the contour version's now avaiable, then chucking in the 4 wire version for the G872 and G595 is giving me hives

lol no its just 4 cores and a resister across 12v and a data terminal

only time I have lost a 370 was when I powered it down years later with the keypad lid off - the blighter just wouldnt reboot

thats a peculiar fault for Gardtec, as usually their kit is pretty bulletproof in design.

given the o/p's efforts on the tamper contact so far, i wonder if that ressistor (680ohm?) is duff or has a cracked lead?

either way, best option imo is of with it's head :bruce_h4h: , as the cost of a far better panel is well worth it, especially if o/p is interested in a voice dialer make fault finding a wast of time.
