diggerdig
Hi all, I moved into my house a couple of years ago with an Optima XM already installed. Is it possible that my telephone line is connected to it? I'm asking as a broadband engineer wants to test my telephone line which means taking apart the junction box and possibly disturbing the line. Would this trigger the alarm, if it is connected? Excuse my ignorance on this subject! -Steve Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/21410-optima-xm-telephone-line/ Share on other sites

Is it a BT (Openreach) person or an independent you've hired or someone else? It's unusual for them to actually visit your property; is there something wrong with your line? Just let the guy run his tests if the alarm goes off you know it's connected but I would hazard a 90% guess it's not Never Teach Your Apprentice Everything You Know Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/21410-optima-xm-telephone-line/#findComment-184499 Share on other sites
Guest anguscanplay
The broadband engineer should know enough to answer the question for you sorry laughing so much it`s hard to t yp e been a good little earner for me the last few years "proving" the alarm can`t be the cause of the broadband problems - they really have got quite good at shifting the blame Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/21410-optima-xm-telephone-line/#findComment-184501 Share on other sites
Alarm Protection
If line is connected which i doubt and alarm sounds then put your code in. When engineer has done his job reset the system(with the engineer still there incase of any problems). Job done. ! Job done. Cool, thx for the info. Sounds like there is nothing much to worry about here. Tiscali seem to send out "engineers" at the drop of a hat. I'm not being billed for the visits. He's not blaming the alarm line (yet), just doesn't want to trigger the darn thing when line-testing. Are you LLU'ed (usually sold as free or very cheap Broadband if it's bundled with the phone)? spider
Your Optima XM can't be directly connected to a phone line, next to the XM it is possible that the previous occupant had fitted a speech dialler, these come in various types, but it should be quite obvious and normally fitted adjacent to the panel.
