Veritas R8+ Tamper Fault

Hi ,

If you read the log and the cause of the alarm was Tamper , you can press Omit to see an extended display. It only distinguishes between bell/global and RKP/panel , but it narrows it down a bit more .

I would link out the bell tamper before getting your ladders out, if the fault disappears , then get ladders out.

An good engineer could test out all circuits and find the fault in minutes, saving you any more grief.

Regards.

When I press omit, all I get displayed is the unset LED and the tamper LED what would I expect to see on the extended display for both tamper faults ie bell and global?

You have to be reading the log...and it must be a newer panel ( post 2000 ).It will show a number 1 , 3 ,5 or 8.

The later panels have single button arming and RKP PA.

I have just sent an email to TEXE.COM with the following query as i have been reading the log - I have the installation manual. My system was installed in 2002.

:: I have a Veritas R8+ installed and recently have been experiencing a lot of tamper faults whether the alarm is set or unset.

When you check the extended display in the event log only the tamper light flashes with no zone led's illuminated.

Your manual doesn't give any information on this it just says 'if the tamper light is flashing, an extended display reveals more information about the source of the tamper alarm(s)'.

Whilst waiting for a reply from anyone on here or from TEXE, I went to look at my control panel again.

On the terminals for the external sounder there is originally a link (factory settings) on D and C according to the manual.

I checked this with my multi meter and the circuit is currently open!!

The other tamper circuit marked TAMP on the circuit board (PIR's) is closed or short circuit.

Would you say that the cause of my fault is a tamper from the external bellbox then?

Its looking that way (depends on how you are testing it)...you could link it out to confirm it.

Have you tested the battery yet?.

it may be a good idea to put in a new battery.

Right....... just put new battery in from Maplins.

Will see how we go. By the way TEXECOM recommend replacing battery every 2-3 yrs.

If this doesn't work I'll link the external sounder tamper out and then have a look at the box when I can borrow the neighbours ladders.

Anybody, if the fault is on the bellbox, whats the approx. cost to replace.

it would be open - your testing it powered, better way is take a voltage reading across +12 and tamper return
