Smoke Screen

Recommended Posts

Two of our engineers are after Vauxhall Astravans of the diesel variety.

Previously they have had Transit Connects and we also have a LWB Transit on the fleet.

All of these have been specifically requested, but are now not appropriate according to the users.

Can anyone give some decent advice on what is a good, reliable and practical vehicle for either service engineer use, or installer?

Thanks

Matt

I have pretty much always had an astra van, I have been provided with the likes of escort estate, but the Astras have always been the most relaible. If there is enough space in the Astra for them to use for work, then they are probably the best option all round.

It might sound petty, but providing an engineer with the vehicle they desire/ask for will surely keep them on board and happy.

I have alway driven what I am given as a company van, but the engineers I have worked with that didnt get what they wanted bitched about it for ages after (never to the bosses though)

Astra van for me aswell.

Have thought about the connects, what do they not like about connects?

The only fault they have is that it makes it dificult to get into a multi-story with your ladders on the top.

One of them had a head gasket go, but it was still in warranty.

Other than that, rock-solid.

Driving it is fine but as an owner I'm sick of paying to put front tyres on the bloomin' thing every 8,000 miles !

Started buying part worn's off eBay as at 24,000 miles a year it's using up all my beer money.

:ranting:

Astra van here as well. I've got a 2005 1.7 CDTi sportive. has all the mod cons, power steering, electric windows, AC, remote central locking, alloys etc........., I have the vauxhall boot liner in it and rear window / bulk head guard. Due to the mileage I do, I had the rear side's soundproofed with dynamat as the road noise proved to be annoying on the motorway. Apart from that its been fantastic.

Recently though I've actually considered swapping it for a SWB transit connect with side door as the astra sometimes is'nt big enough.

Vw caddy here, 3 others use berlingo`s with lpg conversions, think mine (vw) is going as i have seen a quote for another lpg berlingo as they have just extended (15th feb) the congestion charge zone and lpg conversions are free in the zone.

Damn shame the vw is nice to drive and has leccky windows and cd player central locking the lot............hehehe nicked it off the boss, thats why its fully loaded :P

Pain in car parks though, carry a chain and have to take ladders off and chain them to lamposts sometimes.

cheers
