What Compact External Camera?

Featured Replies

I went to price a job for trendy london restaurant today.......

For covering doorway / outside I was going to use a night/day cam (system Q) cam mounted in housing...This would have to be attached to the sign / fascia of shop as they have a folding canopy above.......

So I showed the owner a typical housing...he promptly replied "not on your life"......" I want somthing thats not obtrusive"

Then he saw some bullet cams (for inside property)and immediately wanted to use one of those for outside.......In my view Bullet cams are not "robust" enough for external usage and are sensitive to temp!

What would you offer as an alternative??

Day/night vandal domes suitable?

Thought about that too!! just that the cam would be mounted on a vertical plane....

Whats your thoughts on external bullet cams....??

I guess they're okay but generally speaking the fixing point always lets them down from a security point of view. I would always prefer a vandal-resist option for low-height external cameras in public locations.

Most vandal-resist domes can be angled suitably on a vertical surface, though some come unstuck when looking straight down a wall.

Using a varifocal day/night dome looks professional, is reasonably discreet and is reasonably protected from abuse.

I'd personally suggest a day/night vandal dome. There small inobtrusive, available with various colour casings, or you can paint them whatever colour you like. No problem mounting them on a vertical plane as most come with a 3 axis bracket.

Take another look at the system q website and find CCT502

Its a wall/ceiling mount vandal resistant low light dome. I am sure that will sort you out.

I saw the NiteDevil (CCT502) when I was last at SystemQ, its a nice looking dome with good spec.
