  1. lol the way i look at things is its better to make sure you do the job and maybe take a bit longer checking it, and making sure things are correct than overcharging that way once you have more experience you can charge more and do it in less time matthew its just the way of life im afraid! be like me charge the client less, take more time, be sure what you do is right and dont charge if you need to go back, make sure the system works how it should work! people respect you more that way, you gain more respect, you gain a better reputation over time, and in time you will be making more profit and still be in business!, and the main thing is to look at the work you have done and have pride in what you have done! You need to do a job like this because its something you enjoy doing and your interested in not just for the money!
  2. is this the idiot u guys thought was me?, no chance hes an absolute dick! for starters i dont start pointing the finger what others do is there business and is upto them! this guys an absolute 100% class A bell end
  3. i used to do lighting designs, small power schematiocs, distribution board schedules, lv distribution schematics etc in construction fire alarm layouts n schematics to if i wanted to find easy answers id just open my onsite guide google full of **** anyway
  4. you size your breaker on your cable just below your max current carrying capacity otherwise the cable melts before the breaker trips
  5. i had one of those things when i was renting the bugger gave us a £1000 gas bill but also noticed there was a burst hot water pipe under the floor boards to was like a double wammy that one

  8. ok then clever ******** just going to go a little diverse here whats the maximum n umber of socket outlets you could have on a ring main?
  9. its about a 40A breaker for a cooker to if i remember correctly
  10. 1.5mm = lighting, 6A breaker, ring main 2.5mm 32A breaker, radial 2.5mm 20A breaker
  11. its high inductance so also have to be careful with the old breaker to prevent false tripping
  12. and if you were to carry out a commerical install which cables can you share trunking with in order to prevent false alarms?
  13. and yes they may sell 8 core but why use 8 when you only need 6?, and you only use 2 x 4 cores if you dont have a 6 core to hand! if you dont balance your phases properly it damages the transformer supplying the building
  14. heres a good question would your security system be connected to an essential or non essential supply in a large commercial building like a hospital for instance?
  15. do any of you guys know how to carry out a load assessment on a whole building and why it's important, or what phase rotation is?, or what the skin effect on a cable is?, or why it is important to balance phases on a distribution board?
  16. look am only asking a few daft questions, alarms are in general piss easy, for a general systems you have 8 zones, each zone is a detector or door contact(reed switch). Most systems are normally closed meaning if a high resistance is detected an alarm activation occurs. Unlike door sensors detectors are also powered by 12V, and you wire the tamper through all detecotrs in a daisy chain method. Batteries are in most cases as little as 1.2Ah 12v and as high as 7Ah for larger panels You can also get more advanced detecors like volumetric detecors that work on volume aswell as just heat and sideways movement. You can get filters with detecors to stop false alarms from white light sources Sounders can be wired using a single 6 core cable or 2 x 4 core cables, connection include strobe, bell +, bell -, Tr-, V+ You can include a dialler system by hard wiring to two pins on the bt line, and the negative bell trigger on the external sounder to get it toi call out!
  17. the fact im asking for advise shows i want to do a job correctly
