  1. Yeah I had that conversation with them but they still want PTZ!
  2. Guys I have a customer who currently has an Alien Hero 4 channel HD-SDI DVR with 3 x NiteDevil HD cameras (all from System Q). He's decided he wants to change 1 or 2 of the cameras for HD-SDI 1080p PTZ cams. The current mounting positions of the cameras are approximately 40 yards from the vehicle entry gates. He's after the ability to zoom right in for facial recognition (not software recognition, just visual). I have been pointed in the direction of the HDSDI-PTZ610W from System Q, High Speed HD-SDI 1080p PTZ With 2.1 Megapixel Lens, 18x Optical Zoom, 14x IRs & WDR Have any of you guys either installed this particular model, or any others that are HD-SDI compliant that work well? If so could you put the model numbers and wholesaler links? I have accounts with System Q & Luxrite & Dragon Select but obviously can buy from whoever is best... Thanks all!

  6. I got drawn in on price from Dragon Select, tried them once for a 4 channel DVR on a small domestic job, camera quality fine, DVR keeps locking up, swapped it out for a new one (to be fair they just sent one out without me having to shell out for a new one first) but that one is locking up as well! Back to the customer again... So is the Alien Hero definitely rebadged Hikvision? They told me at SystemQ that they write all their own iOS & Android apps & firmware for the machine. When I get one delivered, I look at the CD that comes with it and the software is always within one month of the date at time of install. It's just a poxy minefield!

  13. So I use Luxritesecurity mainly as a wholesaler and have had a couple of quoted from systemq. The main DVR that SystemQ seem to be pushing that falls into the installs that I do is the Alien Hero. I have not installed one yet, but I have installed several of the Luxrite Spro1 DVRs. I have also installed the Luxrite Vectus HD-SDI DVR which has a much better menu structure. It seems that a lot of wholesalers have their own branded DVRs, but obviously a lot of these are OEM DVRs from the same Chinese factories just rebadged. I struggle with the fact that menus are written in Chinese & translated which sometimes makes me look an **** in front of a customer when I'm trying to explain how to use the thing, especially for advanced use with alarms & e-mailing images etc, rather than your run of the mill calling up of recordings. What would you say is the best DVR for domestic installs on the market right now with links to them (preferably with experience of installing them). It's not so much for my benefit as once you are familiar with a menu structure it's fairly standard across most DVRs, it's more for ease of use for the customer. Any suggestions? .

  15. Ahhhhh, OK thanks I'll have to move that bugger then! guys!
  16. Hmnnn, I anticipated the materials coming to no more than £200 but I'll struggle to do that with the Scantronic... is there not anything that just adds on to dial out? The customer I'm installing this for has requested remote disable as I installed CCTV for them a couple of weeks ago and if they have a false alarm and they are away and they get a call they can stop it once they have looked at the cameras. Knowing the price of manufacturing I would have thought something like an add on speech dialler module would not be that expensive but seems they are! The Powermax would be too expensive for this job but I think I might have to go back to the customer and say it's either standard bells only wired for the money or go for one of the suggestions you guys have made. Thanks for your help! I suppose a GSM dialler would be cheaper?
  17. Hi all, looking to install a basic domestic wired alarm connected to the phone line to dial out if alarm goes. I have an alarm guy who does most of my installs, normally it would be something like an Optima G4 or similar, so something with basic capability that can dial out with the ability to silence the alarm via the phone keypad, 5 PIRs, 2 door contacts, bellbox, can have integral keypad with LCD display., .. !
  18. PIR in the entrance hall, programmed as zone 2, as far as I know it is not changed from the factory default for the sensor. Thanks for the help!
  19. Even though the entry time is set to 30 seconds, once the alarms is set as soon as a PIR detects movement the alarm goes off. I have spent about 2 hours going through the various menus to see why this is happening but I'm stumped... I really don't want to factory reset it if possible, I like to get to the bottom of the problem, don't want to crack a walnut with a sledgehammer! all.
  20. HD SDI CCTV installation going in today, 1080p cameras on analogue cabling, call for details & pricing!

  21. Are there any cameras out there that have integral baluns, only needing a CAT5 terminated on an RJ45? I was thinking that being as unless you are using RS485 control pair, you only need 2 pairs for power and video and therefore if you followed the same scheme throughout couldn't you do that instead? Surely quicker and with a weatherproof housing causes less issues...
  22. At DVR end looking for a tidy solution for CAT5s from cams with baluns on to go into to in turn go to DVR for neater terminations. Baluns are packed so tight on the back of DVRs & it looks terrible! ...
  23. Hi all thanks for the responses... yeah I'll apply in the trade section, you need 5 posts though right? I'll try anyway! all....
  24. I had a call from an installer I know who had used CAT5 with baluns and he had signal problems with interference... I suggested using RG59 shotgun but do it one at a time and test each one in turn. After running cables into 2 cams he found the remaining 2 were fine. I have been using RG59 shotgun exclusively as I have always been a believer in one purpose made cable per camera. Also I have installed HD-SDI which gives 1080p digital signal over RG59. Just out of interest does anyone use CAT6 or is that above and beyond anything that would ever be required?
