  1. Hi joe

i have seen this  on some of my recent interviews aswell it  apears we have a new brand of chancers in the trade now  who want extra staff   but do not want to provide any job security and at no cost to them  it is like self employed - sub contract but less per hour

  2. yes phoned all the larger companies  and most of the smaller one had a few interviews and some 2nd interviews had several strange offers like will i work for cash in hand [no] or do i want to fit 2 or 3 visonic kit per day

most jobs are for  newbies and poorly paid  i have seen the same adds repeated many times  but several good prospects still ongoing

  3. The only problem with renting systems to end users on a fixed term contract is the initial capital outlay for the original install cost  is not high enough to apeal to  factoring company [hp'] , to small a return  on an unsecured loan.

Even if you roll the yearly charges in

The national companies  all capilalise the equipment over the contract period  3 to 7 years [most of which they actualy  manufacture] think back even bt could not make this model profitable.[telecom security]

Remember all the old company names  that no longer trade or have been taken over Worked for multi national that bought many alarm companies because the yearly income looked so good on paper they sold out in the end

Think about visiting the bank  the manager rolling on the floor with tears rolling down his cheeks saying you want to borrow how much the monthly repayments are x and your profit is only  y

It  is ok to put the yearly monitering and maint charge  on  direct debit but your contract needs to be cast iron this model works for most small to medium companies and charge for the install

  4. a 2.5 amp  current will end up ok, think about a car battery this  will be like leaving side lights on  day and night  this will be a constant current drain  is not like the max current required to start  car batt's are sold  in starting amp requirement on a cold day ie amps  output for a very short period.  leisure batt's are used for caravan  and boat lights etc lower current for a longer period  this worked for a long weekend ok it needs some form of trickle charge  to try and stop the volt drop as i said in previous post used solar panel

  5. I have not just worked in the trade as an enginneer worked as sales surveyor for a national ,and on a small company in a corner shop that got very large and ended up with the largest showroom /shop in london with the only boss ,who every day used to wear a denim shirt and jeans and sweep the floor  and when we went out on a survey  we had to take a van and not wear a shirt and tie it worked and every job had to be connected to cs. until he retired sold up

i still choose to be an enginneer. my last company i fiitted 100 to 150 jobs every year for the last 16 years again every  job has a connection right  up until late last year    you cannot stop  other people wanting to slow down  retire

why is it all job adds want cv by email but still do not give their company name or if they are even approved

     what is the quote   I regret nothing      {  i am still learning something new every day}

so i am looking for work in the london essex borders day or weekly rates

  6. The national company model of sell the system for cost or a loss if it is near the end of the month then rub your hand with glee at the montly charge and the high call out charge  it still works, only if they install hundreds of systems per month and the backers have deep pockets and

think how much that  costs and the blind faith it needs

small companies  have to sell  the personal service but remember it takes a lot of £50 pounds  clear profit  after all costs  to get rich  and i can think of several who did

  7. yes i am back to self employed  again  have always  kept the safety net , but choose not to fit my own systems. over the years even right back to the lander's in tottenham days mid 80s  it seemed every one  wanted to be the boss.   it always payes to have a back up plan

  8. I AM NOT HAVING A GO

if somone wants to fit wirless house alarms  thats great i am pointng out that if you only earn a small profit from each job thats great but in the end  someone will do it for cost + £50 POUNDS in the end everybody has a choice

the recurring revenue point is this how lots of companies survive

  9. done that and lost the t shirt , happy to be a worker bee now let somebody else have the stress and to just work for day rate  these are my observations over the years and working with several people who  got very rich by takeovers and cutting costs and to reach the magic number of connections so they can sit back and not have to chase every job just to pay the wages

  10. yes wireless works if the detectors are 2 way radio and you can fit redcare  as in texecom  who would risk  a digi now days, but it is not cheap . talking of a large company  and extra  works  i recently removed a system on a double shop  that did not have enough detectors fitted to confirm an activation   remember recurring revenue is king and do not forget  the multi year maint contract and the baliffs if they want to break the contract early and to put it in the shop owner name as well

  11. in the past year installed about 70 shops all grade2 or grade 3  redcare secure or redcare gsm all on texeccom premir ellite 48 kits and two large distibution centres  one on a 168 other on 640 only job hunting because existing company

has enough  connections  to wind down and think of semi retirement and pass on to his son

  12. All this is ok. but if there is  fire  in the building  and it is caused by an electrical fault and you are the last person to have checked the electrics and you do not have the regs and the building suffers loss  try and see if your insurance will pay out

  13. Hi it has been  years since my last post on this forum

After many years in the trade  working in London &Essex. Keeping my head down and installing away  [  16 years with my current company 39 total ], I have put my head above the wall to find a  totaly differant brave new world

I need to find a job  so  i found my contacts book  went  through the pages only to find most  have sold up and retired  to spain  the numbers dissconnected or i am sorry to say dead

Ok lets try looking on line. My findings are

We no longer  install security systems  we fit them ,and most domestic alarms have no wires [ is this magic]  this was explained to me by employment agency staff who all wish to offer me the same hose bashing job. or the well known national company who cannot keep staff. The main question  asked is why do you still wish to install  [sorry fit] alarms.

The reply is easy  i still enjoy the job and want/need  to work  The search continues

    thanks Peter

  14. Hi   what is wrong with our trade, why is it last man to quote for a system commercial or domestic,  always want's  to beat the cheapest  price  and fit the cheapest wire free system they can buy bells only or speach dialer.

Only for the customer to find out the sytem does not meet insurance requirement's or extra works are required and do not start me off with the  hidden call out charges

This hurt's all of the industry who install grade 2 or 3 sytems with a central station connection

I have been installing security systems for many years, [38 years i had not realised it was that long until i had to fill out my employmant history recently] .

remember  you install a system you fit one way radio junk

    thanks peter
