Right then from your advice/slating i must replace the battery before my house burns down and get out my portasol and solder the dry joint on the transistor

regarding your opinions on pyronix systems all i can say is from experience with my system it does the job it was designed to do with the utmost reliabilty -i can't ask anything more than that

Hi steve, the chip with 3 pins is probably a regulator or some form of oscillator, I suspect a dry joint from what you have said, it WILL need resoldering to provide a good repair, the temp fix you have done although functional isn't right and needs correction.

There is a DIY service guide on the main site that may prove usefull to you.

that's good advice -i will drop a bit of solder on that joint to sort it permanantly and just check my new battery is getting a good charge
