Bad perfomance from IR lamp or is it the camera?

Featured Replies

I baught a Derwent minflood 100 of a college, its been used a bit but works.

Its got a 830nm filter on it & is 100watt

I tried it tonight with a ccd b/w camera, the camera spec is unknown, Its one thats been kicking about in my workshop for a while.

It doesnt really give much light to the camera at all, you can see it making a difference, but not enough.

Is this the camera or the IR lamp?

Thanks.

Depends on how far your looking - what the camera is - and what you expect it to do!!!!

Paul.

The local area, 5m circular of the ir lamp is not even that bright.

I don't know what make the camera is, nor the lux level.

Hi

The camera you are using is probably not sensative in the 830nm ir range

Most older or cheaper cameras are only usable up to about 750nm

Thanks Andy,

I've tried it with 2 cameras both with auto iris lesnses - one no-name unit, must be 5 or more years old & one panasonic camera, again must be 4 or more years old, does that sound like the problem?

Do you know if the filters on the derwent miniflood units are changable?

Hi Alex

Not sure if its possible to change on a miniflood, if its the same as the

larger uniflood , the front is removed by four screws which allows the

replacement of lens and filter

Andy,

The front does apear to remove by 4 torque screws.

Who stocks replacement filters? I can't find anything in the norbain catalogue.

Any wholsaler (including Norbain)who sells derwent kit will be able to supply you the filters

But they proberbly wont hold them in stock, and will have to be orderd

It may be cheaper(and Quicker) to get a better camera

There is lots of good information on Derwents website in particular their Q&A Page

I wouldn't go changing filters, before you have established if your camera is compatiable with the lamps, without knowing the specs of the kit it will be difficult to accertain this.
