BT extension wiring problem - business Highway

Featured Replies

I am trying to extend from the customer's master BT outlet (a BT Business Highway panel) to their new office room, via a preinstalled cat 5e outlet, feedingto their patch cabinet. The wiring is all tested and correct but if a phone is connected to the other end, I get a ring trip (ie phone constantly rings). This is not a problem normally experienced by performing this same procedure but fed from a standard analogue socket.

BT have been less than helpful (as ever) so I wondered of any of you guys had come across this problem, and have any suggestions.

Regards,

Chris

Are you running the extension off a digital port or an analogue port ?

I guess as you are experiencing ring trip, it is an analogue port, is it Line 1 or Line 2 of the 2 analogue ports.

Line 1 can be extended from the NTE5a customer extension panel - the NTE5a will be in front of the Highway NTE, i.e. between the Bt network and the Highway box.

Line 1 can also be extended from the port on the Highway box.

Line 2 has to be extended from the Highway box, either cut the end off a DIY extension lead or run the cable and crimp a BT 431a plug on the end.

*Edit* Sorry just re-read your post, you are not getting ring trip which is a fault condition, you are getting continous ringing, check your wiring you have reversed terminals 3 and 5 somewhere in your connections.

Regards

Simon
