SMS paging with Galaxy

Guys,

I've got my self-installed (not quite DIY as I have professional help) Galaxy system up and running (more details in another post) and I have SMS paging working, but I had to do a bit of a hack to get it going...

My phone is on Orange. Orange have two SMS access numbers 07973 100601 and 07973 100602, neither of them seem to work correctly when configured for SMS paging (TAP protocol) using a Telecom Module (version 5) and Galaxy 500 (4.39 firmware)...

The 'hack' I've done to get SMS paging working is to switch to the Cellnet/O2 SMS centre number and rely on the inter-network (02 to Orange) to get the messages through, to the centre number I've programmed is 07860 980480 and this accepts the TAP protcol from the Telecom Module just fine.

Has anyone got the Galaxy/Telecom Module direct dialling in to Orange - if so which number did you use and which protocol setting?

Mike correct me if im wrong but IIRC you have to use +44 on the centre number.

Dave,

I don't think so... yes, if you are using MO (Mobile Originate), but this is land-line (PSTN) originate... thing is I'm not sure if Orange actually support TAP for SMS they have their own "text" protocol which is different <_<

Hi,

This all sounds very complicated. Is there any advantage over a separate speech dialler that would dial your mobile and leave a voice message rather than SMS?

Also, can you tell us how you manage to get you telecom module version upgraded in the end, or did you get a new one?

Texecom Premier Com2400 texts up to 6 numbers....

Come on Monteey lets start a galaxy bashing argument

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)
