Optical isolator - as it says on the tin.. Can you reconfigure the 232 port on C4 to do something else (doesn't matter what) to prove it works properly? Might be putting out ***** and killing the panel?

Optical isolator is worth looking at, never used one before.

I can reconfirgure the 232 to not be connected to the texecom, effectively the C4 is a virtual keypad so always checking for data with the texecom and reporting back and forth so i wonder if i bad response causes the crash.

Think i need to spend some time making sure i can create the fault and then try firmware updates first.

Is the CIE a common fault?

The building is quite large and some of the C4 kit is in a second rack on a different mains phase, could this be an issue?

Configure it to do something else otherwise you're not proving if it works or not.

Never heard of it before!

Are the 2 bits of kit connected by 232 on the same phase?

even more reason to fit an isolator!

the only time i've ever had a CIE fault on a texecom was on a system where someone wired a relay to switch mains, and wired it directly to a digi output on the panel.

on reading the log i noticed the panel usually crashed when said output had activated, looked at the relay and saw evidence of arcing so i'm guessing it sent some spiked voltage to the panel and reset it.

sounds like your issue could be similar, if the control4 is on a different phase then the serial link could be getting some iffy voltage from somewhere.

Morning

Yes it doesnt make any difference if connected on RS232 or IP

Exactly the same? Have you got a spare 232 on the C4 - can you try using this instead of the one yr using now?
