Accenta 8 advice required

Featured Replies

I have an Accenta 8 (mini?) which was installed almost 5 years ago. Recently I've been getting false alarms from a zone with a door contact, although the alarm would be OK for several days between false alarms. I've replaced the contact but still have the same problem.

Today I've had two false alarms for a different zone fitted with a passive.

Following advice in other posts I've checked the resistance of both zones and both appear OK, very low resistance. I've checked the back of the back of the circuit board for signs of blackening and it's OK. The battery is 2.2Ah although it is now almost 5 years since it was installed. I've bridged out the zone with the door contact so that I can rule out the wiring to that (I've been omitting the zone until I decided what to do next, but it looks as though things are starting to get worse)

Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what I should check next or do I need a new alarm?

Thanks Pete, I was thinking about the battery after reading some of the other posts.

I've tried to ensure that all of the wires to the zones are kept away from mains leads and only cross them at right angles, but nothing has changed around any of the wiring for over a year, so it shouldn't be AC induced noise I don't think.

Up until the last month or so I could count my false alarms on the fingers of one hand and most of these seemed to be explained by spider webs in front of passives!

New battery now installed. Checked for AC induced noise, maximum reading on the multimeter was 0.24V, so I guess thats OK.

Any other checks I should make if the new battery does not cure my false alarms or do I need a new alarm?

Thanks for the advice, it's now two weeks since I changed the battery and no false alarms since then (touch wood).

Looks like the panel is OK.

Update on the above. Had a false alarm on the same zone as previously. This is a flush mounted door contact, so can't be spiders. Checked the door at the time and it was shut. I've previoulsy checked the resistance of this zone and all seems well. I've also replaced the door contact to rule this out.

Anything else that I can try or is this now pointing to a faulty panel?

I'm at a loss now as it looked like the new battery had cured the problem.

Are there any new ariels in the area either cb or taxi etc etc - your system may be picking up RFi and false alarming that way.

Thanks for the suggestions. There are no new aerials that I have seen, most of the houses around here are bungalows so they would be quite visible I think. I live in a village, so no Police, Fire or Ambulance radios either.

The alarm is wired to its own circuit breaker and there is nothing else connected to it.

Hi Pete,

I'll give this a go. I thought that the other checks I'd done following your advice and the new battery had cured it as I've not had any false alarms for a month.

I agree with Pete, sounds like you may have a cable problem, check its not caught up in the carpet gripper.
