I'm a homeowner that has been researching a home surveillance system for a few weeks now. I have some time to make my my final decision on a system so I'm doing my due diligence with researching and learning as much as I can about the pros and cons of the difference types of systems. I don't really want the cost of a professional system but something that more is geared towards a DIY, has a straightforward setup (PoE), high resolution (1080p), can be accessed remotely, and is reliable.

I am fairly handy and extremely comfortable with the layout of my attic so installation will not be a problem. There just seems to be so much cacophony between what is good and bad. I'm hoping learn a lot of everyone here and your experiences with the homeowner type systems you've installed and what you would have done differently.

Thanks!

Hi Roy

The topic title was a bit misleading.

You are absolutely right I would not want to be a DIYer looking for CCTV right now there are some very cheap cameras out there with very impressive specifications that I wouldn't trust to prop a door open. Equally though there are some very good cameras seeping through with high resolution 1080p and remote access, the difficulty is finding them when you dont know what questions to ask
