I might be missing something but this seems over complicated to show the VGA output from a laptop on a screen. Would a "picture in picture" monitor work for your intended purpose, one showing laptop screen and the other showing the spot output of the DVR?

All you would need is the VGA to Cat5 converters suggested and the monitor ofcourse.

Assuming that a dedicated screen is not wanted for some reason.

Ok so to be clear you want to record onto the dvr the output on the clone screen. Or do you want to display the cameras on this clone screen?

the clone screen will be going onto dvr which will then pop up on the spot monitor on motion.
