Galaxy 18 Control...g. Gold

you cant use a 232 to 485 converter as thats tha main data line.

Depends on the panel and age as to what module you do need for site work, ie a g3/dimension already has the converter and only needs a serial lead to the laptop

Thanks for the reply Redbull.

Not familiar with the Galaxy range of equipment, however, looking @ the Eng Manual diagrams, modules like the Max are connected to the 485 bus to communicate.

So assumed that using a Rs232/485 converter would allow me to communicate with the control panel viaGalaxy Gold, without having to purchase a plug on board, the panel in question is a galaxy18 V4.50

Thanks for your quick response

all the odules connect to the 485 bus. But on a galaxy that bus is encrypted.

Only way on a classic is to use either a telecoms mod and dial it up, or a 232 module.

Both sit on the 485 line

I just came on here to start this thread ... and here it is.

Ive got the classic 500 with the 232 mod - connected to the S1 engineers port via the little fly lead.

Coming from the mod, out of the parallel port, converter to serial and then converts to usb.

Also could do with disabling the tamper on the 232mod - anyone know how its done?

GalGold wont get past "checking password" and after a few minutes "access disabled at galaxy panel" ??

Have I overlooked something?
