BT supply there engineers with little plastic connectors you just squeeze together and they grip and hold. they are filled with a little silicon gel so they prevent corrosion. I'm not sure what they are called.

Magic beans as my mate from bt calls them. very very handy if you can get a bt box of them otherwise you pay about a quid for 10.
