Magnetic Cards and Locks

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I own a Video Surveillance company and a customer has asked that we install about 10 magnetic card swipe type locks. I've searched the internet and I can't really find a good selection.

If you guys know of any that are good that you have used or seen, please post and let me know.

The first thing you need to determine from the customer (I think), is if these 10 systems will be completely stand-alone or if they will be interconnected at some point in the future. There are loads of little companies around that manufacture card readers that provide the outputs you need to open a door. If however there will be a requirement to interlink them to allow control or monitoring at a later stage, you are in the realms of an Access "System" rather than a simple door controller.

I would look at:

TDSi

Bewater/Cotag

Paxton Access

Verex Technology

to name some of the larger brands.

Paxton's NET2 system is a good piece of kit. Each door has a seperate door access panel net2 unit (an ACU), which is capable of running a single door using a mix'n'match of any 2 of the following. Keypads, proxy's, swipe readers or plain push to exit buttons.

All the door access units can then be connected to a bus line and connected to a PC. The software is simple to use and gives good overall system management. A nice desktop card reader comes in handy for adding fobs to the whole system without having to go to each ACU and add them one door at a time. Photo's and other personal details can be added to both the software program running on the PC and onto the cards themselves.

lol, anyone would think I'm on a commission basis here. It's just that I've put stacks in and they are spot on. very impressed I am.

I would also recommend the Paxton Net2

Excellent bit of kit - and as yet no problems
