having just looked at the 9448 manual i noticed it has function for chime to be set against each zone, how can i tell if this function has been enabled by the installer ? tried setting this as per the manual in zone 1 but it does nothing

If you have followed user guide ie 7 enter then code and nothing is chiming then it hasnt been set up.

You will need to talk to your installer as you can only programme chime setup with the eng code.
