this idea dates back from my discoteque building days, if cheap lighting effects are needed, use mains lights, erratic flickering required (imitating sound to light) then simply wire a florescent starter in series with a chain of lamps, make 3 chains job done,

trust me, nobody sits there after a few pints trying to see if they are actually in sync with the music.
