Scantronic 9800 Battery Fault

Featured Replies

Any ideas appreciated!!!!

I have a Scantronic 9800 circa 1995 which I inherited on moving in 2 years ago. Changed battery, serviced, couple of new PIR's & a new bellbox (Texecom Oddy 3) Also fitted a SD1 I had going spare (had to reprogram output for that one which involved defaulting the panel as no ENG code) All was well till today, out of nowhere bF on keypad (Battery Fault). Wont reset even in ENG mode. Tried reboot from mains off & battery disconnected but fault wont go away. The battery is fine (less than 2 years old reads 12.5v with leads disconnected & 12.1v when under load ie mains disconnected). All connections at battery & plug to PCB are OK. Even tried a different battery (yes it was charged up) Has anyone come across this before? From other posts the 9800 seems to be a reliable panel if a bit long in the tooth now. Dont want to spend

Tried the battery on a load over a period? Prob drop rapid style when loaded for longer than 30 mins, bad battery.

Thanks Chris will try it tomorrow am. Bit late to try now neighbours would lynch me if I inadvertently triggered the bellbox OOPS!!

Any ideas appreciated!!!!

nah that battery`s not fine - its dead, anything less than 13.2v on a 9800`s ikely to trigger bf

With everything connected I get 13.8v at the battery terminals

you will do - thats the voltage coming from the panel your problem is the system self checks and decides that anything below a certain value coming back from the battery is a fault and tells you

trust me - if the battery is less than 13.2v then that panel will bf within a year, your battery is dead
