December 2, 200718 yr comment_185260 thanks alan for your reply, i have some instructions of how to clear nvm is that the powering down you mean? if so is says to conect terminals xx and xx and the little piece of wire is inside the control box to conect them together. but which are terminals xx and xx.many thanks martin NO!, clearing the VM will also clear al the programming back to factory default, so if the installer has changed things then those settings will be lost along with all the codes. the keypad and main control unit are both microcomputers in their own right, but need to be in sync to be able to communicate, thats why powering down and again then powering up in the proper sequence is very important, the manual you have should relate to it and what the manufacturer suggests is the correct method. as an example, if the battery is fully discharged actually duff, it might apply say 10 not 12 volts when reconnected, the keypad may respond but the main cpu might suffer or vise versa, so starting up on the battery can cause problems you might not expect. some panels do clear their memmory which they should not on power failure, that why i asked the make and model. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!! December 2, 200718 yr comment_185261 hello, the green light is on for power but none of the control panel buttons work so cannot set alarmthe control panel is optima xm6 which is based on the optima xm many thanks martin the sequence for power up is mains first then battery on that panel, rather daft as the problem you had of a power down is fairly common (so a very 'p' poor poor design imo) Regs Alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
