Tamper Terminals/circuit On Emps-75 Magnetic Contact

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I have a question about the Honeywell EMPS-75 magnetic contact. This device has 5 terminals, 2 "silver-coloured" and the other 3 "brass-coloured". I've checked the 2 "silver-coloured" terminals with a meter and, sure enough, they close/short when the contact sections are brought together (this tells me it's a normally-closed reed switch, ready to be wired across the zone terminals in the panel).

However, all the marketing material says that it also incorporates a tamper loop. I've checked all possible permutations across all of the other contacts, and everything is permanently open (infinite resistance). I just can't see how there can be a tamper loop in this device - the other 3 brass-coloured terminals don't seem to be connected to anything.

I understand how to wire the dedicated tamper terminals (in my pirs) in series, such that any break in the terminal circuit opens/triggers the panel's tamper alarm. I just can't see what to do with this magnetic contact. Do I simply run this device's tamper wires to/from any one of the brass-coloured terminals (and that's all), leaving the last 2 brass-coloured terminals completely unconnected? Is that what Honeywell classes as a tamper circuit?

Any advice would be appreciated... Cynthia.

thats a tamper circuit im afraid

Wow! - I'm a little surprised! Thank you for your reply, camerabloke, I do appreciate it.

So these devices don't contain an independent tamper switch (like most pirs do, for example). Honeywell's claim that this device has a "Tamper loop" would seem to be more a property of the tamper circuit wiring running to and from it, rather than anything to do with the device itself!

Thanks again.

new grade 3 style contacts have a tamper switch on them, and can be a lot bigger than the one you have
