Thanks guys, I am willing to give it a try as I feel paying for an engineer maybe a bit too much for me and more or less insurance for the house without an alarm is not too expensive. Maplin is not close by but will go and try to get one. .

answered your own question there pepene - pay someone with the knowledge you require to come and sort your alarm out - it should have been rectified within 4 hours if you were on a service agreement - that time limit is there for a reason - is the front of the panel geting hot yet , no smells of burning coming from the c/u.

insurance will go up if they have to rebuild it lol
