Accord XPC

Hello! I am hoping that someone out there can give me some technical advice. I have an Accord XPC alarm keypad. Since 6pm it has been giving a single bleep once every few minutes. I called out //.National Installer.// who installed the alarm (about 15 months ago), but becaues the one engineer in the area is booked up for the evening, I am stuck with a bleeping alarm for the night.

I am tempted to remove the two screws on the plastic control panel where all the wire lead to and see if the problem is something really obvious, like a battery that needs replacing. Does anyone know if: a) the bleeping is likely to be caused by a low battery; b) is this something that I could replace myself; c) if the alarm is set off by unscrewing the box with the wires, will putting in the alarm code shut it off?

If your beeping is regular then i would check your smoke detectors first (assuming you have some) as they beep when the battery is flat.

Now if your alarm is covered by a maintenance contract then i would advise you to contact //.National Installer.// again and ask to get an engineer to call you if they wont come out.

If your not covered by a maintenance contract then try a local company from the yellow pages, i would'nt recommend opening up your panel if your not really sure about what your doing.

I am not on a maintenance contract.

I do have smoke detectors but I have no idea if they are attached to the alarm system, nevertheless, I will check the batteries anyway.....

I think you might be onto something with the smoke detector battery suggestion. I went to my circut breaker board and switched off the switch that said 'smoke alarm'. The alarm system keypad started to bleep as it does when the alarm is set off and the low battery icon (according to the not very detailed instruction manual) flashed on until I entered my code. I then removed the battery from the smoke alarm and went off in search of a new battery. Of course, I don't have the correct battery to hand, but I did notice that the original one off beeps every two or three minutes has stopped. So at least this means that I can get some sleep tonight and tomorrow I will buy replacement batteries for all of smoke alarms and see if that is the solution to my problem. Thanks for the advice!

You`d be supprised just how frequently we are called out to a beeping panel/keypad fault to find out it`s nothing to do with the alarm system, but is infact a dying battery in a Smoke/Heat detector.

Its supprising how the beep from these smoke sensors bounces around the room at seems to come from the intruder alarm keypad......
