The alarm syste, for my flat seems to be on the same fuse as the lights. I need to switch this off to fit a new light fitting, but when I do so the alarm sounds. How do I disable this feature to allow me to fit a new light without risking violence from my neighbours?

Hi, it's not supposed to do that, it's a fault not a feature.

It should have an internal battery that keeps it working through power cuts of several hours.

You need an engineer to fix it.

Hello, I would get an engineer in asap! Since it will active if you have a power cut and the external sounder could sound for 20 minutes or even more depending on how old the external sounder is.
