Bell Box Advice

Featured Replies

Hi Folks, I have a Scantronic 9200 system and now find that I need a new SAB external bellbox due to fatal corrosion in my existing one.

Can anyone advise as to an up to date one that will wire direct to the 9200 circuit board.

Regards.... Phil.

If there is corrosion in the bell box then it may be best getting the rest of the system checked by an engineer because it may have caused damage to the main pcb

hi Phil44

most any proprietry external siren will work with your control panel.

i assume you have cosmetic damage, usually the plastic coating peeling of due uv instability in the plastic coating over tin.

your existing siren (if connected correctly) will sound when you remove the lid, this might startle you into an accident from height so be very careful even if competent on ladders.

when installing the new siren the strobe has a potential to deliver a shock of several thousand volts, unlikely to kill outright but the fall to the ground by you could.

when buying the siren ask for the correct connections from the venor as for wiring it to the 9200, the enclosed drawings may not make sense to you. we are not keen to exsplore the information you would need as it could be misused by newbie villains (i'm sure your not one).

Thanks fellas.

As a retired engineer myself I can appreciate the do's & dont's involved and having built very high power photographic flash units I do have Knowledge of the voltages generated by Strobes, in general though the extremely high voltages are generated in the strobe tube trigger circuit rather than across the main contacts, although they can of course be a few hundred volts.

My enquiry was initiated because of the response I received from a couple of Alarm Supplier/Installers who insisted that the whole system would have to be replaced as modern bell boxes wouldn't be compatible with my dated 9200 Panel.

I had thought about buying a new dummy box and fitting the innards from my damaged one, but considered that it would be easier and probably cheaper to just fit a new box altogether.

Thanks again...... Phil.

Yes that's what I reckoned, One of them even said that my 9200 panel didn't comply with current legal requirements... whatever he assumed they were.

I am opting for a Texecom box... Thanks for the help.

Phil.
