  1. 5 lever front, back and integral garage. Not sure what's on some French UPVC @ the rear, will check when I can be arsed

There enough not for profit safety and security guys out there who replace them at low cost.

Our company install a new lock for fiver!

  2. You said the insurer may not cover that's why I assumed bump. Cylinder snapping is becoming more common but would show signs of a break-in

Reason I said this is due I went to a insurance job and the insurance company was not going to pay out on the claim as they never had 'Insurance Approved Locks' which was the new 3 star locks.   and this insurance company was one of the big under writers.

  3. Why not carry ½ dozen and offer to do them?

Ironically your link is also broken....

    There your link.

I do carry them in my van all the time,  I show them old locks I removed and when I remove them I always Snap them to show them how easy it was!

  4. As an NSI gold co I do a risk assessment. It includes physical security, the approach to the building, the crime area, and the likeliness of a burglary occurring.

BTW on the unlikely chance of you getting in my house my dog wont let you leave with both legs

    What type dog you have?

  5. Where do you live, Beirut?

No I can get into your house in about 10seconds without needing to break any window or even find a open window or door!   OH also your insurance company may not pay out!

The current locks a lot of homes have can be broken in about 10seconds and I done it before!

If you view it as a business point if you go and show them all the home weaknesses and tell them how they can improve 99% that person feel more comfortable with you as you given them some FREE advice!

  6. If they have UPVC doors check your locks - if they are the ones that came with the door, and/or without a Kitemark, look at getting eurocyclinders fitted that prevent - or foil - locksnapping attempts. I use Avocet ones.

    Security lighting can be useful but the usual DIY pitfalls are;

    Wired badly or unsafe

    Dazzling drivers or neighbours

Rubbish B+Q type units with 500w lamps (LED all the way, or fluorescent if on a photocell for me)

PIRs set up in the wrong place

Yea like I can image you make a good wee extra money earner.

Its been known for ourselves to go out and re do locks, External Lights,  We also set sensors up so it switches random lights on in the house which to be honest would just make you jump and think Oh there somebody walking about + Alarm,  Fences, Hedge cutting and etc.

Recently we been fitting FakeTV which is really good and setting up on timers and etc

  7. Hello,

I know many of you are Security Engineers who fit Alarms and CCTV and etc.

Have anybody ever looked at other Safety Defences?

Reason I ask this is due my grandparents got a local alarm company and he did not pick up on Locks, Outside Lights, gates, smoke detectors but just that they never had Alarm and quoted for alarm system.

  8. That looks really good,  I would possible not bother with PIR on top landing which then allow when everyone asleep for you to set alarm.

As there been a increase in burglars while people asleep and got in via unlocked door or broken a window.  (Lock all doors at Night!!!)

The used to always say Honeywell Galaxy system is the best however last few I installed they been small problems relating to the board which in my view is standards are slipping.    I have been installing more Visonic Systems and the PowerMax is a great kit or even the Yale SmartPhone or SmartHome is a good system by look at Spec as the Yale SmartHome system is a Grade 2 system.

I properly get slagged for saying Yale System however the SmartHome is a grade 2 and is as good as the Galaxy, Visonic and Texecom Wireless Systems.

  9. In Glasgow we have a lot of properties like yours which are Concrete Pre-Fabs.

    Few points

Check when drilling into concrete for any asbestos and etc however I sure your Home Report will shown that.

We tend to run the cables with the rest of trades of electrical set up or I would tact then along corners and would advise home owner to paint over cable.

I would also be tempted to advise you with a Wireless Set-up as there are some good Wireless systems there now too.    You could even do Hybrid of House being Wired and Out buildings being wireless.

  10. Was in local Maplin on monday collecting something and upon entry spotted all 4 staff standing at the CCTV section with 2 guys, i thought i have a nosey what they doing and they were on the hard sell :teehee: ... the 2 guys were getting bombarded by 4 staff all chipping in the "merits" of the 960H System they were trying to sell, they were all excited as one begrudginly had to come to the till and serve me and another followed and commented to the guy behind till that this was gonna be a mega sale for the store and he had offered to come and fit it for them as well for free !! £1200 quids worth of total :mfr_omg: they were both mega excited, the  2 guys left in front of me and as i exited the store both were laughing as they jumped into a Van with CCTV Installations up the side of it :roflmao:

Why did you not walk to that customer and just hand them your business card?

This was in a warehouse we where working in last week. The radio blasting out Bollywood classics was on the end of it.

I switched it off as soon as I seen it.

Gosh that is dam dangerous,  I was at a site few weeks ago and the Fire Officer actual Shut place down.

The company employed Polish and etc to pick and pack uniforms and we had to go in and Install a Fire System, Fire Fighting Equipment and Fire Doors.   They had Extension Cable Running everywhere.  I noticed Scottish Power had put a Tag on meter as looked like they tried to by-pass meter at one stage.

To be honest I never put my hand into a unknown void and we have same sort of item but it called String!

  12. We had a funny one once where the alarm 'went funny' every time they went in the cupboard.

Some joker had wired it to the switch (i.e C and L1), and being a few years ago the filament of a 60W lamp was more

than enough to take the current of a small transformer. Of course turned on this then cut off the alarm which briefly

went into mains fail until they'd finished in the cupboard.

Done to death 2 years ago!

How awkward as this is why people don't like alarms!

  13. Hello,

Well had to go to a customer property to remove Texecom Veritas system.   Various reasons customer want alarm removed but thats a other story.

This system is hardwired in as normal.

Went about to Set system into Light only mode, simple

    Remove Bell Box, Simple

Went to Panel removed battery, Simple

Went to remove fuse spur, It was not fused in!

Looked about to try find mains cable, This is put inside wall and was actully connected to the Bathroom Extractor spur!

Have anybody ever come across this or a weird way to wire in alarm.
