  1. Charlie I completely missed your post #20.

I believe the outputs all over the panel and the rios are transistotised, in that they are not relays. Apart from the strobe driver.

My high load outputs are an Elmedene siren (yellow branded one) and an elmedene internal high low sounder with strobe. On the grand scheme I'm guessing they aren't that high.

Possibly confused the matter when I referred to high load devices earlier on in the thread which caused the breaker to go. I meant the tumble dryer, washing machine and vacuum cleaner. They aren't connected to the panel by the way.

  2. I had a job lot of rios so I wasn't to bothered about that.

Equally it gives me lots of little runs that can easily be replaced or moved later if required.

Agreed its not the best way though.

Bear in mind that 1 rio was going to be used for integration to my raspberry pi however I have only briefly looked at the galaxy app and not sure what that can do for me at the moment. I believe I need the ethernet module for that to work.

  3. I would guess at "probably wrong" but I followed some instructions from the forum ...

H+ & H- are the 12V hold off supply from the panel.

TR & TS are tamper return & tamper supply. The TS is linked to H- by the little wire link at the top. You need to cut this if you want to use TWO SABs in order to connect the tampers in series.

R- & S- are the negative triggers for the siren & strobe respectively.

ENG is the engineer hold off. Connecting this to +12V will by pass the tamper switches on the module & allow you to remove the cover with out the SAB sounding. Connect to a panel output which goes to +12V when the ENG code is entered.

Fault - is the output of the internal self test circuit which operates every 24hrs. It goes to +12V when the module detects an internal failure.

REM TST - allows the internal self test to be triggered on demand.

I would suggest the fault is at the panel though because as soon as the power is pulled from the panel, all the leds on the rios stop and the system stops working.

  4. Thanks Charlie / SWB.

the breaker runs my garage extension and it tripped out because I had three high draw appliances running from it. No thunder and lightning etc. I was present when it went.

12v hold off is present when it's powered up. I'm guessing, but will check, it goes with the mains.

I will swap the batteries over and replicate the problem.

Ive have checked both batteries and they hold 12.74v each give or take.

  5. Al-yeti

Yes, that was the smart psu that needed the battery to provide power to the relay to engage the charging circuit. The fuses I changed were also on the smart psu.

It's the panel now. This is my panel. The system recognises when the battery is disconnected because the keypad reports it via the led.

  6. This is why diy shouldn't be having ago at alarms and trying to use old kit.

I did post this in the diy forum which is Kindly laid on by the TSI admin. I guess if they didn't want to help diyers then they would remove this forum completely and the helpful people who have continued to help me wouldn't do so.

  7. Galguy : Ive never programmed and I dont know what SIA3 or TTL is. This is my 1st Pi project more than just building a media player.

Also, I cant go from the Pi Serial Port as the galaxy doesnt have a serial port - not that works anyway.

Hence why it might be overkill just to read some pins, but its basic, which is what I understand!

For now though, I think that the RS232 board has had it and its an expensive upgrade to a Dimesion 96 when I bring in the associated keypads, RSS etc just to get serial functionality back.

  8. Its a "proper"  serial port straight into the PC. I do have a USB>Serial adaptor which worked fine on the laptop.

Like I said, its worked fine for a few weeks and now it doesnt. It dropped its connection and cant seem to reestablish a handshake from the PC.

The Pi will use the alarm outputs to register on the GPIO pins, which in turn will read that pin and send a relevant email depending on the output fired. IE - Fire, Intruder, Panic or Duress. I hope to integrate a VoIP program too so that it can call out. But thats after I have taught myself Python.

  9. I just like the ability to use it.

I am also playing around connecting one of the rios to a raspberry pi for use as an alarm signaller.

Reversing that system would allow me to shut it down in the event of a false alarm etc or to set it when she forgets to.

If anyone has one they are selling then get in touch.

If I got a dimension panel then I'd only be doing so for the comms route. Plus id need mk7/8 keypads, newer RSS and obviously I'd have to get a touch Centre.
