Scantronic 9600 System - Lid Tamper Error

Featured Replies

I had a system installed 16 years ago and it has given excellent service. All detectors are dual tech. We had a new ceiling in kitchen and since then the sensor in kitchen is shown as LID TAMPER ERROR. I have even stuck the tamper switch down but there is no change.

I have removed all wires leading to sensor but it is still reporting the same error and will not let me reset the system saying SYSTEM CANNOT BE RESET.

Any help/advice greatfully received. I don't mind if the tamper on the detector does not work.

TIA

Could be your Bell Tamper some models of the 9600 had a module inside the End Station that would show lid tamper when you remove the bellbox lid.

Check the wiring hasnt been damaged.

Removing the wires from the sensor will not do the job, there is a fault on the circuit or detector that will need repairing,

What sort of an anti tamper device would it be if you could just pull the wires out ?????

:hmm:

But the alarm would be triggered before anybody could pull the wires out!

My problem is trying to identify where the problem is. If it is wiring then the building firm will have to pay but if it just needs a new sensor then I can do it myself - unless it is more complicated than it looks.

I have determined that the problem is NOT the tamper switch on the control panel.

Can anyone tell me how to isolate the detector? Presumably connecting the relevant wires together will short out the anti-tamper switch. Where can I get details of the wiring for the detector? It is one of the detectors shown on the cover of the 9600 manual.

Any help gratefully received.

It doesn't matter which detector it is, the wiring will depend upon the installer who fitted it. likely two will carry power 12-volt + and -, two will be the alarm circuit and two the tamper circuit; your mission, should you choose to accept it is to determine which cables are which ... this message will self destruct in 15 seconds ................ no hang on I'm getting carried away! :D

IF you decide to carry on yourself you will need to open the the alarm panel - BEFORE YOU DO, READ MY SIG!

Inside the panel, by noting which zone number the sensor is on you will be able to figure out which cables do what and then you can short tamper and cirucit pairs together - if you can't then call in an engineer as you shouldn't be tackling the problem.

You will need to put the control panel into engineering mode before removing the panel cover to

avoid the anti tamper activating.

Do you know the engineering code ??

If you do then put the panel into engineering mode and you can strap out the problem zone in the panel to confirm if the problem is the panel or your wiring.
