Hi all,

Looking for a bit of advice please. Got a Scantronic 9751 with 9930 keypad.  Keys have become poorly responsive and looks like needs the keypad changed over. I have manged to get hold of another new 9930 keypad.  I have the engineeer and user reset codes. Is it as straightforward as taking off the front of the keypad and swapping it over for the new one?  I know there is a tamper alarm as soon as the front of the keypad is taken off but the code disables this. Is the general advice to cut the power supply tot he alarm and disconnect the battery first although this means the bell box keep sounding.  Will the settings remain known to the system despite swapping the keypad out (ie is the memory of the settings stored outwith the keypad box?

pretty much a straight swap, engineer codes will usually disable the tamper. all the settings etc are on the panel not the keypad

Don't bother, you'll soon be replacing the 2nd 9930, they are terrible for keys.

 

Get yourself a 9943 keypad, and you'll gain fob operation at the same time.

Thank you Andy - are you able to talk me through the steps of swapping the old one for the new one at all?  Just worries i think its easier than it actually is?

 

Thanks datadiffusion - I know what you mean but at the moment it seems the easier option rather than having to rewire and fit a full new keypad...although the fob operation sounds really good - not sure i would know how to program them though...

There would be no rewiring just two screws in the wall, no reprogramming either, its just the new version of the obselete 9930, straight replacement other than the size.

Oh really? that sounds promising....

So can you suggest a step by step way of replacing it?  My guess is :

 

1) Switch off mains power and disconnect battery

2) Enter tamper code (alarm box will continue to sound)

3) Open up keypad - I assume some wires will need disconnecting at this point?

4) remove old keypad 

5) fix new keypad to the wall

6) rewire the removed connections back in?

7) reconnect battery and switch back power

 

If the above is correct, are you able to talk me through the connections needing disconnected and then reconnected please?

Personally, I would simply enter the engineer code, and then remove the 12v and 0v wires on the 'bus' connection inside the main box.

This is easy to spot as its the only block that sits on its own, with 4 terminals, at the bottom of the circuit board.

 

Then remove the old keypad, noting which colours are

 

12v

0v

data

Clock

 

The new 9943 keypad has exactly the same connections, just in a slightly different place.

 

Once this is connected, simply reconnect the 12v and 0v at the panel, shut the cabinet, and return to the keypad.

 

You might have to press a key to make the display come back, but you should be able to press 0 9 9 then 'tick' and exit engineering mode.

 

To add fobs, simply add a new user in the normal way, but offer up the fob rather than entering a number.

Remember to not short 12v/0v wires.

By removing them at the panel temporarily this can be virtually eliminated

Also i note about not shorting the 12v/0v wires - how would that happen?
