Menvier TS690R clicking noise

Hi all,

I have a Menvier Networker TS690R wireless security system.

Last night (a windy, rainy night), the alarm box outside started to make a very loud clicking/crackling noise. The noise was similar to that made by a geiger-counter (for measuring radiation), but much much louder.

The noise happened intermittently (on and off every 30 seconds or so) for a good hour before I managed to turn the thing off.

Does anyone have any idea as to what could have caused the noise? A faulty speaker (or whatever makes the noise)? A faulty battery? Any clues greatly appreciated!
