If you are going to format the drive set an IP address on the DVR first and make note so you can use this later. Make sure you format it in fat32 and NOT NTFS as the DM will not recognise it correctly. After that put it all back together and run a firmware update (available from the DM site) from a laptop connected via crossover. You unit should be back to factory default now with no images. If your struggling to format the drive in fat32 there is a little dos program out there which can be found with a little googling.
