I've moved into a house that has a Citadel XR2 alarm unfortunately I wasn't given the code. do i need to contact an engineer to reset it.

yes & at the same time he can check the whole system works, is suitable for your property/risks and supply a new back up battery which is one of the most common causes of faults (going by the number of posts on here anyway)
