Only thing that makes me think it isn't the keypad is that the other keys still beep when it's frozen.

If the button was stuck down, then surely they wouldn't do anything at all?

If they are beeping when pressed, then it's being reconised that they have been pressed.

Not sure how it's setup...

It may well be that the keypad tones are generated locally and have no bearing on whether or not the panel is actually seeing the output.

Test it by holding a random key down then entering the user code at the same time.

If the user code keys still bleep but don't actually set/unset the system it will help diagnose the problem.
