Dvr To Pc Through Network Cable

Featured Replies

Because for a decent hub from PC World will cost you 50-100% more than other smaller suppliers. How do you think they subsidise all the TV adverts they have?

I meant why a hub and not a crossover?

I meant why a hub and not a crossover?

When I worked for GSL CCTV technical Support many years ago I was asked to test their Vantage 1ch dvr against their network software. Once I had set the correct ip address, subnet and gateway addresses on both, using a crossover cable would ping and even connect ok, but would not stream the images. as soon as I swapped the crossover cable for a hub and standard patch leads, video streaming started.

That is one example. Other times I have worked with different dvr's and found a similar situation arising. Now through bitter experience I would always recommend a hub/switch and standard network patch leads.

A point to note, how would you test two dvr's connecting to multi site software without a hub/switch?

Kind regards

Can't say i've ever had a problem with X over.

As for 2 devices, stating the obvious xover would be no good.
