Veritas R8 Control Panel Problem

Featured Replies

Hi there, I'm hoping someone can help me with a control panel problem. A while back my idiot room mate set the alarm off and couldn't remember the code to turn it off. He took a pair of side cutters and cut the cable to the control panel. Of course the alarm kept going, I think it eventually ran the battery down and stopped working.

Now I'm trying to revive the alarm, and it has a perculiar fault. It won't recognise the code, the LEDs on the control panel are very dim and the buzzer doesn't sound properly. I disconnected the cable, and measured 12 volts coming up from the alarm, but when I connect the keypad back up, it drops to around 4.5 volts. Anyone out there with any ideas? Where could I get my hands on a schematic? Thanks in advance,

Mike

Hi , Sounds like you could have more than one fault, and it depends on your fault finding skills whether you could identify them all.You have a dvm/avo , so check all fuses (mains , 12vdc , bell , rkp etc.) cutting through a cable usually pops a fuse.I would disconnect the external bell until you have control of the panel.RKP and detectors require 12vdc to operate, if you have 4.5v , disconnect each circuit to find the culprit. An alarm engineer could find most faults in minutes, I would go down that route.

Have fun,
